I Die... but not as fashionably

I love when I see on Twitter that Rachel Zoe is "dying".  Dying about Michael Kors, her new line on HSN, or her son's Hermes scarf.  It totally cracks me up.  I don't watch her show though.  I can't bring myself to do it.  I'm pretty sure it would depress me.  It would remind me of that fashionable former life I used to have.  The one I no longer have, or even know how to have.  I can't watch the fabulous Rachel Zoe, because it would make me long for the fashion elite life, the one I dreamed about, the one I still day dream about.

You know what I'm talking about right?  The life I used to lead.  The one where I read InStyle and not Parents.  The one where the foundation I wore cost what a case of diapers now costs.  That fabulous life where I wore heels and wedges not Uggs and well Uggs.  I miss being fashionable.

I'm only bringing this up because I had an "I die" moment over the weekend, but not in the way that Rachel Zoe does.  Last Saturday night was John's Fraternity Alumni dinner.  It was "dressy", which meant clothes that haven't seen the light of day in half a decade.  It also meant that I would need hosiery, as in nylons.  I put that purchase off, so far off in fact, that Saturday afternoon, I went to the grocery store across the street to buy nylons.  Let me type that again, I, Megan E Crutchfield, bought hosiery at the GROCERY STORE...

I DIE

I said that.  Out loud, to myself, in the car.  "I just bought nylons, at VONS, I die".  Then I laughed hysterically at myself, because this indeed is the glamorous life I now lead!

To say that my beauty routine is simple is the understatement of the decade (half of the last one and the first 2 years of this one to clarify).  Most days I'm make up free, with dirty hair, and a pony tail.  If I'm feeling fancy, I'll wear powder, lip gloss, and possibly style my hair.  My clothes are another situation.  My wardrobe staples include yoga pants, jeans, leggings, sweatshirts, and an "old lady" maternity sweater (as John calls it) that I just can't throw out.  Even as I type this I'm shedding a tear for the old fashionable me.

So yes, I die, about fashion all the time, because most days I'm in the "faux pas" category.  The only good thing about this is when I do decide to dress up and get fancy, I can really knock it out of the park with little effort.  Some eyeliner, brow shadow and mascara makes a big difference.  Running my flat iron through my locks makes me look almost red carpet ready.  Some friends have commented on our Christmas card pictures, stating that I look great, to which I reply, "Thanks, I had to bring my A Game".  Yes, if it involves photographs, I will always bring my A Game.

Here is what my A Game looks like...

That dress, 3 years old, Ann Taylor loft.  The shoes, 6 years old, Nine West (sorry you can't see them); the jewelry, Lia Sophia, The hosiery, Vons (I'm dying), hair and make-up by The Crutchfield Salon...
And the hubby looks handsome too right?

The other thing about being a hot mess on most days of the week... When you actually do bring "it", your husband tells you, not once, not twice, but three times, just how great you look.  And again, I die!

Happy Blogging,
Megan
